#1. Will bats be attracted to a Bat house if I bought one?
A: There is no guarantee that bats will use it. I build houses on the idea “If you build it they will come” it’s the same idea that people buy a bird house expecting birds to nest inside.
#2. What are the advantages of having bats around? Less insects?
A. Yes fewer mosquitoes around your house or place where you live or camp at.
Some bat species eat an incredible number of night-flying insects including mosquitoes. By some accounts, they can eat as many as 1,200 insects in an hour of feeding! Bat droppings (guano) are a very effective fertilizer.
#3. Where should I mount or hang a Bat house at?
A. Bat houses should be mounted (hang, nailed or screwed) at least 10 feet above ground, and 12 to 20 feet is better. To keep bats away from predators. Choose a sunny location on the East or South facing side of your house. Bat houses work best with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight (if only partial day sun is available morning sun is preferable). Bat houses should not be lit by bright lights, so installing near porch or security lights is generally a bad idea.
